The regional Cabinet meeting in Cardiff is the first ever to be held in Wales.

After a round-table discussion, Cabinet members and the PM answered questions on a range of issues from the economy, to jobs and the environment.

Gordon Brown said he was impressed by the strong desire in Wales to build stronger communities and he stressed his determination to save as many jobs as possible during the downturn.

Mr Brown said the Welsh Assembly, which is now in its tenth year, has led the way in many areas of social policy in recent years.

The discussions in Cardiff will feed into the Government’s Building Britain’s Future programme.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister announced plans to electrify the railway line between London and Swansea. It is part of a £1.1 billion investment in two major railway lines aimed at creating a world class service.

He also took part in a Live interview on BBC Radio Wales and the Red Dragon FM question time event at the Millennium Stadium with 50 young people.
